Introduction
About PGRC
- The center defines the pharmacogenomic characteristics of Koreans and post metabolic elements that affect drug responses. We have established a database dedicated to pharmacogenomics and related technologies in an effort to realize tailored, personalized pharmacotherapy.
-
Established in January 2003, the PharmacoGenomics Research Center found its home in June of the same year, on the 6th floor of the extension building of the Inje College of Medicine located in Geagum, Busan, South Korea. Professor Jae-Gook Shin currently heads the Center as its first chief and along with the faculty of the Center, many other professors support and are supported by the Center: Professor Seong-Su Yea, Department of Biochemistry; Professor Byeong-Du Lee, Department of Internal Medicine; Professor Jin-Ho Chun, Department of Preventive Medicine; Professor Joo-Cheol Shim, Department of Neuropsychiatry; and Professor Chun-Gyu Kim, Department of Pharmaceutical Science. The Center is the first institute for pharmacogenomic studies in Korea and leads domestic research on this subject.
Designated as a state-supporting research institute, the Center is equipped with cutting edge technology needed to conduct pharmacogenomics research. The Research Center leads Korea in the science of drug metabolizing enzymes, drug transporters, Carcinostatis Substances, etc, and to develop tailored pharmacotherapy based on clinical trials. Particularly, the Center is recognized to have a considerable technology level in the areas of drug metabolizing enzymes and drug transporters. The Center's major research areas are about pharmacogenomics and tailored pharmacotherapy, drug metabolism & interactions, drug transferring substances, clinical pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics, Therapeutic Drug Monitoring (TDM) and population pharmacokinetics, clinical toxicology, etc. Based on its clinical pharmacological knowledge and technology, the Research Center performs clinical demonstrations to develop new drugs and offers TDM and appropriate pharmacotherapeutic adjustment services with the Clinical Trial Center, at Busan Paik Hospital.
