The 21st century is referred to as the Age of Biomedical Science in which biotech and biomedical science are combined. The completion of Human Genome Project and studies on the function of individual genes are expected to bring forth the realization of human dream of longevity free from illness. In order to embody this human dream, many medical scientists today steadfastly endeavor to realize tailored medicine. At present, however, pharmacotherapy shows 20~80% success, depending on different drugs. To some patients, the side effect of drugs is quite serious. In fact, the technology to prescribe safely and effectively tailored pharmacotherapy has a certain limit mainly due to the wide inter-individual difference in the reaction to medication. This difference is caused by different genetic elements of individuals.
We attempt serious effort to characterize the functional genetics of drug metabolizing enzymes and drug transporters, two major components determining such individual differences, to optimize personalized pharmacotherapy, and to facilitate the efficient development of new drugs through application of pharmacogenomic study.
Particularly, we endeavor to establish pharmacogenomics database of drug metabolizing enzymes, drug transporters, and pharmacogenomics about major pharmacotherapeutics in an effort to predict patients' response to important clinical drugs. The database ranging from molecular to clinical aspects is continuously constructed to develop optimally tailored pharmacotherapy, to provide efficient and successful foundation for new drug development, and ultimately to dedicate promote our public health, Aiming at this objective, we do our best as a center of domestic and international pharmacogenomic studies.
We hope for your continuous concern and support,
